"The Grand Canyon of the Pacific"

    Waimea Canyon is often compared to the Grand Canyon. Author Mark Twain was the first to compare Waimea Canyon to the Grand Canyon. This is an appropriate comparison because even though Waimea Canyon is smaller than the Grand Canyon, it just as visually spectacular because of its beauty. Waimea Canyon is the largest canyon in the Pacific with a length of 10 miles and a width of a mile and some 3,500 feet deep. The Canyon was carved by thousands of years of river erosion from Mount Waialeale.
